He will brief you on what your 2 day Rwanda gorilla safari is about, and then you begin your 2-3 hour journey through Rwanda’s “Land of a Thousand Hills” towards Volcanoes National Park in Musanze.
The drive offers spectacular landscapes, terraced hills, and rural countryside views.
Upon arrival, check in at your lodge, relax by the fireplace, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the next day’s once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trek.
Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation choice: Mid-range or Luxury Lodge at Volcanoes NP
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Bisate Lodge (Luxury), La Palme Hotel (Moderate) or Kinigi Guesthouse (Budget)
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park – Transfer Back to Kigali
Wake up early for breakfast, then transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters for the gorilla trekking briefing at 7:00 AM. Park rangers will assign gorilla families depending on your fitness level and preferences.
You’ll need to carry a packed lunch or light snacks, along with plenty of bottled water to keep you energized during the trek.
Make sure you’re dressed and equipped for the forest conditions—waterproof hiking boots for muddy trails, a comfortable daypack for your essentials, and a camera without flash for capturing the moment responsibly.
Long-sleeved shirts or breathable T-shirts and sturdy trousers will protect you from branches and insects, while a walking stick (provided at the park) helps with balance on steep slopes.
You may also add gloves, a rain jacket, and gaiters for extra comfort. This simple preparation ensures you enjoy your gorilla trek safely and fully.
You’ll be grouped with up to eight fellow trekkers, all heading out to visit one carefully habituated gorilla family.
The entire adventure can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, depending on your pace, the terrain, and where the gorillas have moved that day.
Some treks are gentle and short, while others take you deeper into the forest—but every step is part of the excitement.
Rangers and guides move at a comfortable pace, making sure everyone stays safe and enjoys the experience.
Begin your trek through bamboo forests, volcanic slopes, and dense vegetation in search of your assigned gorilla family.
Once you find them, spend one magical hour observing silverbacks, mothers, juveniles, and playful infants.
This intimate encounter is often described as one of the most profound wildlife experiences on Earth.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch or proceed straight to Kigali depending on timing.
Enjoy a scenic drive back to the city, with an optional stop at roadside markets or photography viewpoints.
Arrive in Kigali in the late afternoon and transfer to the airport or your hotel—marking the end of your unforgettable gorilla safari.
Meal Plan: Breakfast & Lunch (optional)
